What To Do |
 |
In addition to a wealth of archaeological sites, Orkney can provide walking, loch fishing, bird watching, cycling
and peaceful clean and quiet beaches where seals and birds frequent.
There are two local tour operators who will pick up and drop off at the mill, if you fancy a guided tour of the sites. There is also
the opportunity to take a boat trip which will allow you to view the cliff bird colonies and seal colonies, further afield.
If you are more adventurous you can book a scuba dive day, which can be geared for the complete beginner.
Orkney also has several excellent restaurants where Orkney produce is served up in
tantalising dishes for you to enjoy.
Kirkwall now features a modern equipped sports centre, complete with cinema. There is also a bowling alley close by.
Orkney is host to various festivals throughout the year starting in May with the Folk Festival which is now of world renown. The
St Magnus Festival in June offers a range of classic musical performances by professional artists. In September there is the Science
Festival which also has an annual programme, packed with interesting topics. July sees Stromness hold Stromness Shopping Week, which
is a Gala Week of various activities for all ages and finally in October The Orkney Jazz Festival is again held in Stromness.
